Miu just nodded at Lena’s response. This time, she looked up at the night sky, head laid back against the bench. Lena looked at her, a bit amused, though her expression stayed flat. She did the same thing as Miu. They watched the night sky above them in silence, and for the first time, Lena felt comforted by a stranger she had only met minutes ago. — Lena noticed Miu was dozing off, eyes closed, face turned toward her, all snuggled up. “You should go to bed.” Lena’s voice woke Miu up, startling her and breaking her comfy posture. “You should too. It’s late,” Miu replied, fixing herself. “I will.” Lena looked at her. “You better.” Miu got up and gave a warm smile. Before Miu left, Lena spoke softly. “Miu, thank you.” Miu turned toward Lena, giving a sweet smile. This time, she saw a difference in Lena’s eyes. It was like they were smiling. Yes, her face was still cold, but you could tell she was grateful. — Now it was just Lena sitting alone on the bench. It felt nice for once. For the first time, she wasn’t alone. She decided to go back after thirty minutes with her thoughts. When she got home, she was greeted by a cold feeling. Her house wasn’t warm at all, not even decorations could help because there were barely any. The only thing keeping it together was her paintings. Yes, she drew. But even her paintings looked dull. Just buildings, architecture, no people in sight. But this was Lena’s routine. She decided to make a little snack, just some matcha and toasted bread. She went down to her basement. That was where she drew, her workplace. Drawing was where she spent most of her time, the only thing that helped her pass time. It was also her source of income. She was an astounding artist. Her clients were always wealthy. By 3 a.m., she was done drawing a commission for a client. “When will this cycle stop?” Lena said to herself, stretching after two hours of drawing. Lena was aware she was miserable. She didn’t understand how she got to be like this. Just three months ago, she was striving, and suddenly she hit rock bottom. By 4 a.m., she was in bed. Tired, eyes shut, but she just couldn’t sleep. She just couldn’t. “Gosh!” Lena said to herself, frustrated, burying her face into her pillow. By 5 a.m., she still couldn’t sleep. Tossing and turning, flipping the warm side of her pillow to the cold one, finding another pillow to hug, removing and grabbing her blanket again. So by 5:30, she was out at the park once more. Some of the elders were awake, having their morning exercise. But she sat by the bench again. This area was the only place that always managed to soothe her. This week was one of the most frustrating ones. She went two days without sleep. She badly wanted to. She loved sleeping but she just couldn’t. “Get yourself together, Lena,” Lena said to herself while walking back to her house. She was about to open her gate. “Lena?” Miu asked from her front yard. Miu looked shocked, with a bit of confusion. Why was she just going home? “Yes?” Lena asked, looking at Miu. They were now standing in their front yards, facing each other. “Are you going out?” Miu asked. “No, just about to sleep,” Lena said casually. She was about to walk to her door until Miu dramatically opened her mouth. “It’s 6 a.m.?!” Miu was already walking toward Lena’s gate. “Yeah?” Lena looked at her, stopping in her tracks.
