@rileejsmith: Away recently made a lot of changes to their popular Limited Lifetime Warranty policy 👀🤔 so let’s break them down once and for all. TL;DR: Away swapped length for breadth. Their old lifetime warranty covered manufacturing defects only, but fixed them complimentary for the life of your bag. Their new LifetimeCare plan covers way more - including airline damage (big yay!!) - but there’s a cap on how long mail-in repairs are complementary for (5 or 10 years). Which is better? Let me know in the comments! Watch the full video for the breakdown and my opinion on these new changes! 🩵 Source: Away’s warranty pages and blog #awayluggage #away #luggage #suitcase #luggagereview
I’d love it if you did a deep dive and chart comparing all the life time warranties (or regular warranties) of different companies (like away vs Briggs and Riley vs monos vs beis etc)

no i'm the same way. when it came out with the change, i was upset but now actually learning about the changes, it makes sense, and its not necessarily a bad change.

Do you think they are the best brand for a medium-large international travel suitcase?

I don’t understand from a business perspective why they would make this change. It’s better for them if no one uses their warranty and all the bad PR in the change just seems so dumb. Why!!?

I’ve definitely been burned by “lifetime” warranties that don’t actually hold up when you try to submit a claim, and not just in the bag space. So I appreciate the deep dive.

I love my AWAY. Wish I had bought a hard side instead of softside. Might splurge this year.

I like the new policy. I had damage that wasn't covered by old policy so moved on from Away. Tried Monos and Beis. Actually like Beis the best of all three. My bag clip on my Beis broke and they sent me a new bag. We really use our Beis mostly.

I'm not someone who will likely use the warranty at all but am willing to spend a little more to have the quality to allow me not to worry about needing to. So I don't care at all. I do own an Away carryon which I bought because of you and will be trying it out next week for my first work trip since buying it.

They are publicizing this change, but in actual practice, they were doing this new policy prior to announcing the change.

This is so helpful! Just wondering, the 10 years complimentary repair window on the chart says there’s a quote-based service fee after 5 years. Is the second five years just like there’s still coverage but it’s worse? Thanks!

Does this apply to away suitcases bought at Nordstrom for example or just from the away website?

I don’t think I know a company that actually EXPANDS their warranty like this. It’s different, but in good ways

I like the broader coverage. We had damage to our Monos suitcase and found out the only way to submit a claim was if we had talked to our airline first. We got in late and Customer Service was already closed.

I feel like a noob i’ve never looked at a warranty on any of my suitcases. Does Hank have a warranty did I have to buy it separately? I paid enough for it.

I’m not sure what counts as manufacturing defects but away has always fixed/replaced my suitcases from them, no questions asked. (It definitely was the airline’s fault). They’ve replaced almost 3 of my suitcases from them so it’s been worth it in my opinion! But it’s a bit disappointing to hear they will only replace 1 or 2 bags, I’ve had 2 bags from them crack before (I fly almost every week)

I’ve never heard you talk about Eagle Creek. They have a “no matter what” life time warranty. Or their suitcases in general. I’m curious what you think about them.

American Airlines and a limo driver in Rome both broke wheels in my Briggs and Riley and they sent me replacement wheels. I carry spare wheels in my bags and a screw driver now. I also have an Away bag, I didn’t even know it had the lifetime policy.

Thanks for this breakdown! I just bought 2 new bags from away and am now contemplating adding the additional 5 years for $35.
