Say what you will, hardcore fans, but Toy Story 5 was exactly what I needed this year. Along with the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day to look forward to as well. Toy Story 5 definitely makes up for Toy Story 4, even though I didn't hate it as much as everyone else did, my only gripes were zero screen time for Jessie and Woody giving up his voice box. Toys vs tech was a concept that I've always wanted to know how a franchise like Toy Story will tackle this subject since Toy Story: That Time Forgot. If anything, I actually like how the fifth film is like a parallel to the first film, not just because of the references and call backs, but the way Jessie was threatened by Lilypad was similar to how Woody was threatened by Buzz when Andy got him for his birthday. I kinda like that there really is no villain in this film, even though Lily had an unintentional antagonistic role as she was not helping her case of the way she bullies the toys when all they were trying to do is compromise with her and only lost their shit because Lily slagged them off. But I do like the fact that she actually redeemed herself in the end with Jessie's encouragement. Smartypants was also a fun character. When I first heard about him I thought I was gonna hate him but he actually happens to be one of the best new characters in this film. It was the same thing with Forky in the last film and speaking of Forky, I actually like the fact that he's a lot more mature in this film and it's good to know that he wasn't just a one-off character. I really like that the film focuses on Jessie for once, it's about time that she gets a spotlight role, even though she was the main character in Toy Story of Terror. Since the second film, I've always seen Jessie as the third main character of the franchise, which makes me so annoyed why she didn't join Buzz to find Woody and Forky in the last film, it would make Woody giving his badge to her all the more meaningful in my opinion. But in Toy Story 5, I actually feel for Jessie in this one, and I can somewhat relate to her resentment towards tech as I feel the same way about AI when it comes to art and and how the era of traditional artist slowly dying

The old gang wasn’t in it at all! They all had like one phrase each…. It should have been named something about Jessie, not Toy Story 5. I was disappointed, it was definitely the weakest in the franchise for me

I just got back from seeing Toy Story 5 and it honestly surprised me, I was not expecting to really like Toy Story 5 like there’s a lot I like about it such as The whole Toys vs Technology theme, Jessie being the main lead and I loved how they expanded her backstory with Emily and her abandonment issues. So overall I give it a 8/10 Not as good as The original trilogy but way better than Toy Story 4, Now I’m hoping we don’t get a Toy Story 6 because I think this franchise should really rest now.

I think this review is absolutely spot on. it wasn't a bad movie, but I was REALLY hoping we would get another toy antagonist. the 2nd and 3rd movies r so good because the toys have a self contained plot that doesn't constantly revolve around human children. I don't think they can make another sequel if it keeps going this direction without completely losing their audience.. u can clearly tell the writers r so focused on the nostalgia factor trying to connect with the adults that grew up watching these movies that they sorta sacrificed the plot...

I think Jessie returning home, the daughter twist, and the tech takeover conversation, made the movie worth making. Jessie’s story always felt unfinished out of the core four (especially after Bo’s arc in TS4). But like you said, their storyboard needed cleaned up. I wish they would’ve taken their time with it, but maybe they were rushing to get it out while the tablet trend is most relevant.

I loved this film a lot but agree particularly with two of your points - the repetitive nature of the “kids growing out of toys” theme and the ridiculousness of how the toys get around now without being sneaky about avoiding being seen

I’d say it’s definitely better than 4, but not in the same territory as the first 3. Writing and pacing was weird, but I do think it has some important messages in it for both kids and parents. And I gotta say I love the fact it fleshed out the story of another character from a previous movie. Felt like 4 forgot about everything, but this one did some worldbuilding and it was nice to see

great movie! I cried 3 times. went to see it with my 2 grown children and their spouses. we really liked it. Taylor's song tied it all together.

I had fun, I cried at the same scene, just like so many other people. It was lovely to see these characters again, but honestly I think we’ve reached a point where it’s really hard to imagine there not being another Toy Story, and it will be almost impossible to find a better ending than the one Toy Story 3 would have been.

I cannot agree. I left the theater feeling like Pixar is fresh out of ideas when we’re revisiting old Toy Story 2 plot points that go nowhere for most of the movie.
