To give it a 2025-2026 NBA comparison. USA is like the Portland Trailblazer. They are in a group with the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Pelicans, and the Brooklyn Nets. There is a very good chance they will win these 3 games. They can beat Türkiye. Türkiye has already lost to Australia. After the USA's game with Türkiye, the world cup changes to a 32 team march madness type tournament where it is win or go home. Winning their group should give an easier early knockout round opponents but eventually the USA will have to face Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, etc. Since it will be a single elimination round there is in theory a chance they can win it all. It is unlikely though, a more reasonable goal at this point is the USA reaching the Elite 8 depending on how the bracket works out. USA hasn't made it to the elite 8 since 2002. So that is really where the hopes were before the start of the tournament.

Well USA is not bad at all. But when they will meet Germany, Spain, France, the Neterlands, Argentina, Brazil, England , Croatia, Portugal etc... its a totally different sport. Turkey is not that good either.

USA can't win it because they aren't even close to being in one of the best teams in that world cup, they can go as far as quarter final, but once they meet Spain/France/Portugal/Argentina etc. they will absolutely get knocked out

America: Rank 13 Aus: Rank 25 Paraguay: Rank 37 Turkey: Rank 32 You're kinda expected to dominate your group, and you'll probably beat whoever you get in the RO32 as well, but you'll struggle against the likes of Spain (Rank 3), France (Rank 2), and England (Rank 4).

Underdogs by and large do not win the World Cup. Only Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and England have ever won it, and for Uruguay and England it's been 60+ years. There's levels to this. The current US team doesnt have the depth or the quality to keep up with truly elite European or South American teams. I do think the US is closer than it's ever been though... Having several starters who are key contributors for teams int he top 5 leagues in Europe is a great sign.

FIFA rankings had Paraguay around #40. Australia and Turkey were mid 20’s. US is in the teens. I think we had one of the easiest groups. There weren’t quality opponents
