As an ex-professional swimmer, and now after reviewing thousands of videos inside the Swim Success Training App, I’ve noticed one common mistake. People think the catch is a full-arm movement where you try to create speed buy that’s wrong. The purpose of the catch is not to create propulsion. The purpose of the catch is to set your arm in the right position so it *can* create propulsion. During the catch, your job is simple: Use only your hand and forearm. Try to make them as vertical as possible without using your shoulder too much. You’re setting up the angle and once your hand and forearm are vertical, now you’re ready to pull water straight back. And when you pull straight back, your body goes straight forward. The better the angle, the more speed you gain. One more important thing. Your hand must stay flat as any rotation of it will make water slip through. Next time you glide, focus on placing the arm so you can start the catch using only the hand and forearm. Catch first and pull second. 🏆 If you want to see what your catch really looks like, inside the Swim Success Training App we offer video stroke analysis where I personally review your technique. 📈 Free structured training inside the app. 🎥 Stroke analysis available for deeper precision. 🔗 Link in bio
