You pressed your lips together. "Because?" he repeated softly. You looked up. "Because I can't." That was enough. You could see it in his eyes. Relief. Fear. Something else. "Neither can I," he said. And suddenly everything felt too real. Too close. Too intense. "This is a bad idea," you added quickly, as if trying to save yourself. "Maybe." "We could ruin everything." "We could."
