@jeremy4pdx: What is Juneteenth? On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform the last of the enslaved African American people of their freedom, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Every day, we must commit to fighting back against the scourge of white supremacy whenever and wherever it occurs! We must stand up to white supremacy on the national level against Donald Trump and his fascists trying to tear this country apart, and on the state level whenever we see it, and especially especially here at the city level. As we celebrate Juneteenth, we need to back up our words with actions. I support Travis Nelson's statewide reparations bill introduced in the 2025 state legislative session. We can right the wrongs of the past and begin to heal the collective trauma caused by Oregon's discriminatory and racist policies towards African-American Oregonians. Look up Travis Nelson's Oregon HB2995 "Relating to a task force on reparations for Oregonians of African-American descent" #juneteenth #portland #Oregon #pdx #portlandoregon
