I will not accept deathrock slander or darkwave slander now I do feel industrial is goth because we there such thing as goth industrial. Im torn on gothic metal i get where the arguement lays though it is a metal genre I still feel like it belongs but that's just me.

I love deathrock sm but i’m still a bit confused abt its history. If i’m not wrong, gothic rock is derived from post punk and deathrock is derived from punk rock with gothic elements? If that’s the case, then why is gothic metal not in goth music genre?

Who’s saying this though ? Deathrock is the ultimate goth genre. And no, it isn’t just “punk”, deathrock is a distinct goth genre which a distinct sound and lyrics, although some bands like rudimentary peni sit at a midpoint/closer to the punk end of the spectrum. People just trying to make “goth” one specific post punk sound and ignore the variation and subgenres. Personally I have never been as intrested in the “lighter” sounding goth music, theatrical and dark sounding heavier goth music is just better

Those people made me actually second guess myself for a while because I listen to a lot of Darkwave and shoegaze and I’m new to the subculture because I’m only recently like fully breaking my identity to be it’s own individual and some of those people got me feeling like I’m an imposter.
