Cambodia investigates scam compound after South Korean student’s death . Cambodian authorities launched an investigation on Thursday (October 16) into a compound suspected of operating as an online scam centre that trafficked workers to defraud victims worldwide. . The probe came as Prime Minister Hun Manet met South Korea’s Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina in Phnom Penh to discuss the growing problem of cross-border scam operations, following the death of a South Korean university student allegedly tortured by a criminal gang after being lured with a fake job offer. . In response, South Korea issued a “code-black” travel ban, the highest level of alert, covering Poipet, Kampot, and other areas, while advising citizens to leave Sihanoukville. Seoul also dispatched a high-level task force, led by Kim and backed by its intelligence agency, to rescue nationals trapped in scam centres and negotiate their release. . On Friday (October 17), Kim met Cambodian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Yentieng Puthirasmey at the Foreign Ministry in Phnom Penh and visited a suspected scam site in Takeo Province as part of the joint investigation. .
