@feminismishealing: Dr. Opal Lee is an American activist, and a retired teacher and counselor. She is largely considered the grandmother of Juneteenth and leader of the movement to instill the date as a holiday celebrating African American freedom. At 89 years old she walked 2.5 miles a day from Fort Worth Texas to Washington, D.C., symbolizing the 2.5 years it took for news of freedom to reach enslaved Black Americans in Texas.
