Clinic: “im calling about a patient result i never got. An a1c.” Me: “ok. Can i have the name and dob?” Gives me name and dob. Me: “i dont see any orders for an a1c.” Clinic: “hold on… ok i dont see them either”…… mind you im running hundreds of samples and one of my alinity machines is down.

Usually the lab has built in tests that reflex confirmatory tests, a positive urine hCG must be confirmed with a serum hCG why? Because it’s more accurate and it’s a quantitative test meaning it tells us how far along the pregnancy is why do we need that? Assess potential risks like early pregnancy loss ectopic pregnancy or pregnancy of unknown location..

Phleb here, when 2 different doctors hop on a patient and just order repeats on everything I JUST FUCKING DREW 10 MINUTES AGO 😑 and then is calling lab every 5 minutes to get that drawn when it's in the lab being processed 🙄

when they order a potassium and a cmp.. we cancel the potassium, because there is a potassium in a cmp. they will call the lab mad as hell because we cancelled the potassium...
