That fact about the Rougarou not being able to count past twelve is kinda funny😂 imagine this terrifying creature hunting you and being stopped immediately bc it’s trying to count how many objects are on your porch.

My family is Haitian and I’ve heard of a couple of these with creole names (like Rougarou is called lougawou in Haiti!) and tell me why our porch/front steps…are the only pale blue one on the block. Concrete with paint over it, i never understood it this whole time but this makes me wonder who lived here before us (but then again i can’t remember if my mom had it painted 🤔). This was cool to learn!!!

There’s a slave house in Savannah (I can’t remember the name of) and I’m pretty sure the sleeping quarters roof was painted haint blue. (Just a little fact I remembered while reading this)

i think i’ve been targeted by a boo hag before. i have 3 incidents of sleep paralysis where i vividly remember seeing SOMETHING sitting on my chest and not being able to move or breathe

I wonder if the boo hag is what my grandma was telling me when I was younger but idk she said “don’t sleep on your back/stomach (I can’t remember) cause a witch gone ride you/sit on you and take ya breath away. Let’s just say that’s how I started falling asleep on my side but always wake up on my stomach 😂

Interesting. My tribe has our version of haints too. But it’s more ancestral: if you displease ancestors then they can cause plagues and illness. But please them and they can cure, and bring many blessings. We don’t traditionally have porches so the methods of dealing with them were different
