People say “not every villain should be redeemable/redeemed or sympathetic/complicated” and then they got Jax and fucking hated it. And Jax isn’t even one of those characters, they just think he’s an unredeemable, one-note, uncomplicated character because they can’t read between the lines. Heck, they can’t read the lines themselves. They can’t read the fricking author’s note on the front cover. One of my mutuals posted about how Jax is bad trans rep and that since TADC has a large fanbase of children they’re worried that children are going to think all trans people are like Jax. Gooseworx did not write TADC with children in mind. She wrote it to tell a story the way she wanted to tell it. Sometimes the story is more important than the intended audience. Second, media literacy is DEAD. Obviously not all trans people are gonna be like one specific character what are we doing here. There are plenty of trans creators just waiting to tell stories with their own trans characters (me included). The more trans people get to tell their stories, the more trans rep we’ll have, the more types of trans characters and stories we’ll have. I could keep going but I’m gonna stop now

Writing someone who’s supposed to be the WORST possible version of yourself can make some people think that is yourself, and not just all the bad parts of you put into a character. Jax is meant to suck, and Pomni is supposed to be forgiving because she’s a good person. She’s seen Jax’s past, and would never wish abstraction on anyone.

I've always liked jax because he's such a real antagonist. I don't understand the concept of 'this character isn't a good person so actually i hate them'. like?? I get that not every character matches peoples taste and not everyone likes antagonists, but the people who sit there and talk about him like he singlehandedly ruined TADC for them are... so confusing to me. You dont have to like every character but you cant pretend he's not well written just bc you dont relate to him. Jax is a VERY real and nuanced character and for some reason everyone who doesnt like him is convinced its the opposite???
