yeah and we need to legalize horse slaughter in the US and round up and possibly slaughter a higher percentage of the mustangs

also from my understanding Australia has zero native hoofed animals so the environment can not tolerate horses at all

“Feelings don’t matter in this conversation” thank you 💔 it’s exhausting seeing people cape for feral horses all over the world but don’t give a shit about wildlife

It's not herbivore vs carnivores. Australia has been trying to eradicate rabbits since forever. Brumbies are perceived differently because their ancestors were an integral part of Australian history. And the method of the culling is horrible. It's not the same as guys going out to hunt deer. They chase them around with helicopters and try to hit them from a distance while the herd is running. I agree that the issue needs handling, but you are not looking at it with the right information to have anything more than a vague opinion on this one.

And just like the mustangs, they’re not actually wild. They’re feral.

it wasn't polarising until only the last few years. someone gave the nationals 10k in donations to reverse course on them and then has been running campaigns in the hippy regions of the Northern rivers

I'm Australian and I'm firmly pro culling and it's primarily the older population that are so pro brumby and it's such a selfish stance to think they're more important than our precious natives, makes my blood boil. The man from snowy River (A movie) genuinely did so much damage, the most humane and effective thing to do is to get it done quickly, kill them all fast and effectively.

As an Australian I’m all for culling every invasive species and in Australia that does mean horses, cats, dogs, pigs, goats, deer etc

We have the same issue with feral horses ("mustangs") here in the US. Sincerely, A Nevadan (we have more horses than ALL OTHER STATES COMBINED)

nah, I believe most feral populations need to be culled. feral dogs, cats, horses, camels, etc. I'm an animal lover, and part of that is protecting our natural environment

I can understand the culling. It’s the barbaric methods they are using that I don’t agree with. They are inhumane and aren’t effective

I don’t have an issue with the euthanasia. I have an issue with how it is being done. Considering they are going up on four wheelers and bikes- there is zero reason that they need to shoot from a chopper. Especially since the must humane spot to hit from the air? Is tiny for a quick kill. From the ground there is a lot more give on where to hit for a quick death. That’s it. That is why I hate it. They need culled but they should be done humanely.
