Dang. What is that SFP doing that it needs its own heat sync? 😱

Depends on the AT&T router. I was able to put mine in full pass through mode with my Unifi gateway with no issues.

The issue is probably the vlan tagging. When the pon is registered with at&t upstream its also auto assisgned a vlan for the isps internal transport. The domain between your first firewall wan port over the switch was not passing that vlan. But now traffic that eggresses your wan port is all instantly tagged

So you said you have to pur your public IP in, what about when they change your public IP? Do you have to go in and change it, or does it correct automatically?

I wish I had fiber available to do just this with my custom OPNsense firewall. Cable service here only.

I assume you have a BGW/CGW. You need to use the device key and disable the firewalls and packet filters. We deal with these in the field for hotels and small business at my work all the time.

I would think ATT would do a MAC/Serial Number registration to their OLT for your ONU stick to work just like any other ISP does… If what you’re saying is true ATT has security flaws 🤷♂️

Fredneck The Redneck :
The technician installed a BGW620. AT&T has most of the settings on the BGW620 Gateway locked to prevent advance configuration due to the Tri-band antenna. I never recommend customers to use our equipment if they have their own 3rd party networking setup. You did exactly what you should have done. But for the everyday customer that doesn't need advance networking, an AT&T Gateway is fine.

I was able to get this working using the AT&T router and the key was setting a default server on a different subnet and that default server is my preferred router. 🤷♂️

That's a lot of work and money to get around a configuration problem. You are suggesting hundreds of thousands of other customers also had to do the same thing? I don't think so, makes no sense.

Got mine from China 😅 had to pay extra couldn't find it on Amazon back then it was three years ago, and it's been a workhorse ever since, no updates or config changes needed! It runs smoothly, though it does get a bit toasty, so I rigged up a DIY fan solution 🤣🤣🤣. I had old firewall, but this year a quick upgrade to UniFi Cloud Fiber, and it's working like a charm! ✨ full speed , i hate the stupid att router 😤😤😤
