HEMI RYAN :
2016 Ram 1500 Limited 5.7L with 132k miles and the Hemi tick came along. no, i’m not talking about the exhaust manifold bolts, i’m talking about the lifters and camshaft. it’s now currently in the shop getting them replaced. 😔💔

Coyotes have issues, Modern LS have the same issues, plus bearing issues. I like mine, pretty simple engine, just put in a new crate motor, cam, and mds delete. Only reason being I got a good deal on the motor, 3,000$ for a complete motor. Can't beat that.

All of this is due to oil. Change your oil every 5000 not when your dash says 0 percent oil life.

100% of the 5.7s I have seen 2012 2013 2015 2018 have failed before 200k. the earliest being a 2013 that made it to 118,000 miles. we also had a 2018 with the 6.4 and a 2500 that failed at 66k.

I am in charge of ordering parts for a fairly large repair shop and I order 5-6 times more timing sets for ford 5.0s then lifters and cams for hemis and the cam and lifters for hemis are usually on fleet trucks that spend a lot of time idling

most engine issues over the years, over many makes and models, can boil down to lack of maintenance.

I’ve had several Hemi’s in my life personally and professionally. VERY reliable is an understatement. Police agencies use them for a reason.

I have two of these engines sitting in my garage. First one suffered 2 lifter and camshaft failures within 225,000 miles...very poor reliability odds. Second engine was a remanned engine and only got a year out of it due to coolant leaking into the oil pan. Oil pressure failed and the timing chain jumped two teeth and bent 8 pushrods and punched a hole. Cause of lifter failure? Oil flow design. Lifters sit at a 45 degree angle (sideways) and has nearly no chance of lubrication. The MDS lifters are the only lifters that get the most Oil. The non MDS lifters only get pil by chance oil manages to reach the pushrods and flows down to the lifters. Unfortunately, 2,000 RPM is insufficient to apply enough pressure for pil to travel up the block, up the head, into the rocker rail, and down the pishrod. And what little oil does make it down the pushrod, its still not enough to reach the roller and camshaft lobe. Finally, the supply tube sits directly under the camshaft and blocks any crank splash from reaching the camshaft and rollers. The result? This engine was designed strictly to guarantee failure within 100,000 miles give or take. Very unreliable engine...
