I feel like him being the ML would've been far more interesting. I mean you have princess x commoner(?) knight, so you have forbidden relationship and the societal class difference. You have Talia, a guarded princess who is shaped by her trauma and has a horrible reputation and is easy to misunderstand. Then you have Edric who is assigned as her knight who persists through Talia's unpleasant/rudeness to him and helps her, even standing up to the crown prince to defend her. Slowly through their time together we could've seen how Edric sees past the visage Talia puts on and sees her real self and Talia could slowly grow to trust Edric and realise that someone cares about her for her, not her beauty or status.

but I like the way he is the only sane one out there and treats Thalia both as servant and human perfectly. He is not led by her beauty just for being good person and he follows the order not by the fear but just the way he feels like she should be protected? I bet he has younger siblings so Thalia also became one (too capricious) in his eyes.
