One of the Bontoc
One of the Bontoc "Ayyuwerng" (chants) where the Fabfafallo(single men) and the Mamagkit(single Women) of Bontoc would chant whenever the men are courting the women during the times of Og-ogfo (times of farming); "Fab-fafallo ya Mamagkit ay en ay-yowerng iska Karsa" Nan Ayyuwerng si Karsha (The chant of the Road) Chus-anoy/Chus-arnoy Na labya is tongchuna-a Entakot mang-iwa-a Entat ilan si liw-wa-a Ulog chas ka pulla-a Ta mo mawing-nga-a Sa takot en isa-a San aniyen chad engkhaw-wa-a Pakey ay finug-ka-a Pen pununa nan khimata-a Tay fekhas nay sin weyawey Ad-a cham-et si ito-khag-ey Siya mo lallalaki Nan en mangi kawili Pew cham sa ay ib-fa-a Si tu-sha ay ong-nga-a Oney si men lew-wa-a Wad-ay nan ka-tonan Chapan ay mamok-nakhan Faneng chad kayong-yongan As-op si en chan-numan Fumala ta ya uschongan A-abfen nan ong-onga Umey ta ay en mangila Engkat edcha-lay-owam Ya engka fa-cha-fachangan Amed nan timpon si sama Awni et nafay-ya Semek na ya layad na English translation: Na, the night has come, Let's go home, Let's go and see our friends, To their "ulog" (a place where women sleeps) at their place, So when the morning comes, We will help them take the rice the they've gathered home, Rice that is very tall, That makes the "khimata" (weaved transport/field basket) full, The rice that bloom fruitly, That is very heavy to carry, When we take it home alternately You put it until it is full, For the MAN to carry, Who will be married readily, Who has a ricefield that is recognized, Where feet wants to go, As it is near to be watered, Where I come out to look upon it, Even when carrying a child to work on it, Especially in the time of farming, You go and help togetherly, Where the parents will change their mind, As they decide for us to marry. People a long time ago also uses figures of speech on the lyrics they construct when they are courting, it's either to make there lyrics rhyme and interesting or to create a story of their own. The lyrics of the Chus-anoy m portrays on how the Bontoc people (Bontok tribe) decide who is worthy of marrying their daughter long time ago during the times of Og-ogfo/Ug-ugfu when farming. The lyrics showcases the courting system of Bontoc, Mountain Province long time ago where a man would do anything to help the woman he is courting and her family during the season of farming where he will prove his worthiness inorder to change the mind of the parents and let him marry their daughter. #AyyuwerngsiKarsa #Chus_anoy #Ayyuwerng #Courtingsong #TheBontocCulture #Inugma #Sinangad_om #yourifontokone #BontociliCulturesandPractices
