$On May 23rd 2026, at approximately 10:32pm, my husband and daughter were hit head on by a drunk driver only a few blocks away from our home. I was working at the time and received a random call from him after he should have been returning home from getting a late night dinner from Taco Bell, that I had requested for when I would get home in a couple hours. He was conscious and telling me how they were just in an accident but everything was okay. If you know my husband you know he is a very strong minded and strong willed person, he always tries to take care of any issues himself to prevent himself from feeling like a burden to people, including his wife who would never feel that way about him, lol. So we hang up like normal, I’m thinking it’s just a small fender bender, but then he calls me back, and repeated himself word for word, that’s when I knew something was actually wrong. I asked him about our daughter and to speak with her, he handed the phone off and she immediately broke down into tears on the other end. I could hear the paramedics checking her out, also assuring me on the phone that she was checked out okay. I called him frantically over and over on my way home so worried that he could have a concussion so I didn’t want him falling asleep. Driving home I saw a glimpse of the truck on a flat bed in the dark, but I saw that basically the entire front end of the truck was gone. I got home soon after he was helped into our house by two officers who had to assist him with walking because he was unable to on his own, but his adrenaline was slowly starting to wear off that as soon as I got home to find him a complete bloody and broken mess. I tried to get him comfortable, his body was shaking so bad like he couldn’t get warm but it was his body in shock I think trying not to shut down. After a long, wife-filled lecture he was finally ready to get some help. I called 911 and the same officers and paramedics that were at the crash site showed up and they were able to better explain how bad the crash actually was. In the emergency room, following countless scans and tests and X-rays they determined Brandon had a fractured hip, sternum, multiple ribs, clavicle and multiple facial fractures. He was immediately emitted to the trauma unit at the Regions hospital in St. Paul and spend the next week undergoing a surgery to place a steel plate in his chest to prevent further damage on his sternum break, and constant scans and X-rays to monitor the rest of his injuries. My daughter and I had to spend one night away from him because a nurse informed Brandon it was just too late for someone her age to be with other trauma patients. When we laid down for bed my daughter told me “I’m just going to pretend that the car accident didn’t happen” and she meant that dad was in the house with us, just like how things have always been. Now my husband is out of work until he is cleared by doctors to work again, and I am also out of work staying home to care for him physically because he cannot perform normal day duties without some extra help. On top of all the devastating injuries my husband acquired from the terrible decisions of one person, we are also fighting financial struggles because the drunk driver didn’t have insurance🙄 so our insurance is able to cover some of these medical bills, but we have a long road ahead of us and our benefits will run out sooner rather than later. We have only been in Minnesota for about a year and half now and majority of our support systems are out of state, so my sister-in-law created a GoFundMe for our family to help us with some bills and food for the time being. If you are able to help in any way, even just a small prayer for our family, we greatly appreciate any and all forms of help.
