the petunia cardigan 💐 this was a project from three years ago where I hand-embroidered a thrifted purple/pink cardigan with little flowers. it was inspired by a picture on Pinterest of a cute vintage cardigan. I used some embroidery thread from an old sewing kit I had at home as well as a few colors picked up at Joann 🪡 it was my first time doing embroidery and it definitely wasn’t perfect. I didn’t use a hoop since I didn’t have one at the time and didn’t realize it would make my stitches a lot more even and prevent tension/puckering😅 I also didn’t separate the embroidery threads which is what you’re usually supposed to do, so the embroidery is a little thick/bumpy. additionally, I didn’t sketch out an outline and just freehanded these floral designs, so the spacing/sizing is a little irregular. despite all of these little mistakes, I think it came out pretty well and I still enjoy wearing it :) I love the idea of adding embroidery to things to make them more my style, more intricate, or to repair — I’ve seen videos of people embroidering over a stain or hole as a form of visible mending, which is not only sustainable but creative. it reminds me of kintsugi, a Japanese practice where broken pottery is repaired with gold paint/enamel in the cracks to turn its imperfections into art. a new goal for 2025 is to practice more with embroidery and maybe dabble in new mending techniques. #handembroidery #embroidery #sewing #handsewing #sustainablefashion #secondhand #thrifted #vintagefashion #coquette #cottagecore #ethereal #femme #vintage #modasostenible #costura
