@letsbetechs: This is one of those diagnostics where just hearing the description pretty much tells you what the issue is. It's not super common because it depends on the system having a single-pole contactor, and the compressor has to ground out on the side of the contactor that's being switched—otherwise, it just kicks the breaker. Maybe it's more common for other people, but this is probably only the third time I've seen it in 27 years. I do hear others talk about it happening to them, though. How often do you see it? ​I didn't think about it while I was there, but I should have shown the amp draw coming through the white wire. There was no amp draw through the black wire, but we would have measured an amp draw across the ground wire since it's providing the path back to neutral. ​#hvac #hvacapprentice #hvactechnician #hvaclife
