You may have heard “Drive You’re Knees higher” while sprinting before In my opinion this is lazy coaching Here is a breakdown of the biomechanics behind “High Knees” By lifting your knee higher you achieve more hip flexion on the swing leg & likely faster hip flexion as well (High Knee”, but here is why: → More hip flexion likely allows the lower leg to stay folded Longer during the swing phase, this decreases your moment of inertia → Less inertia = leg swings forward faster with the same effort → As a result of staying flexed longer and a faster swing through your knee is going to travel higher When the flexed lower leg finally unfolds, that moment is EVERYTHING Because knee extension and hip extension arrive at the same time as the foot travels toward the ground Two forces combining at one moment The result: → A higher spike of ground reaction force at touchdown → More range to accelerate the leg through → A thigh reaching 90° creating a MORE HORIZONTAL flight trajectory → More distance covered per stride, without extra effort Now with the exercise I show at the end which I used to improve my athletes speed this is how I use it. ANKLE - Pick your heel up cleanly. Don’t stomp SHIN - Keep your heel under your knee as long as possible. KNEE - Drive up. Stay folded. Cast the shin down at the last moment. This exercise isn’t going to magically fix everything but it’s a piece of the puzzle when trying to improve performance If you want to get results like this, drop me a message 👊 #football #Soccer #sprinting
