My husband only got 2 weeks paid leave (teacher in Alabama) with our second but it changed EVERYTHING about postpartum for me. He went back to work the day we brought our first home from the hospital and I instantly fell into DEEP ppd.

I didn’t get any paid leave with my youngest two. So for both I worked my entire pregnancy, saved up my vacation days, took two weeks vacation (the max I could get) that started the day I delivered, and then went back to work. To say I struggled postpartum is a wild understatement. But yay capitalism, amiright?? 🫠😭

My husband didn't get any time off with our first, he had to go to work the day after we got home. I ended up with postpartum psychosis and it was awful. After my 2nd, he became an amazing stay at home dad

My husband had to go back to work while I was still in the hospital- 2 days after a C section 🥲 (his work promised him time off and then called him saying he had to come in or lose his job)

My husband had to go back to work the day after we came home from the hospital (after an unexpected c-section), and it upset him so much. He is a wonderful help when he’s off work, but it kills him that he had to go back so early.

Paternal leave should be mandatory. I also died during childbirth and my husband had to return to work before I even left the hospital. I would have given anything to have help at home while I was recovering. He gave his all at home and work, usually without sleeping for days.

This means so much 🫶🏻. My husband got one week. I had emergency surgery to repair birth injuries 10 days out. He was already back at work. Luckily, I had just been laid off in a covid restructure 😂. We can laugh about it now.

My husband got parental leave, but it was before he understood what being a dad could be. However- I can appreciate that the generation of men before him? They didn’t even get the opportunity to try to be supportive. The next generation? They are going to be such tuned in parents. They’ll understand the mental load, and how to support each other. Because we are raising them to be better 💕 I have hope!

Mine got two weeks and slept 8-10 hours a night. The key is to also be with a man who desires to be a father and partner. (Thriving in single motherhood!)
