My chickens get terrified when I add anything that isn't the same color as dirt 😂, I added dust and they wouldn't touch it until I mixed it in for them

Hiii I have a question! That all purpose sand in the photo you attached is medium gradation sand. I used to use it in my chicken run but I got scolded by a lot of chicken owners because it contains crystalline silica which is apparently bad for chickens in dust form. Have you had any issues with it? Or what do you think about using it even though it contains silica? It was so cheap I liked using it.
