Passengers do purchase upgrades onboard more often than you might think. - An upgrade is not just a different seat. It includes the full Business Class service: meals, drinks, amenities, baggage entitlements, and documentation that must be accounted for. - In certain medical situations, premium cabin seats may be needed to accommodate a passenger who cannot remain seated upright in Economy. - Just like you can’t give away your company’s products or services for free without permission, cabin crew can’t give away Business Class seats simply because they happen to be empty. Think of it this way: You wouldn’t walk into a hotel and say: “Do you have an empty suite? Great. Put me there for free.
