Who were Aun o Muhammad? Hazrat Aun (a) and Muhammad (a) were the sons of Hazrat Abdullah ibne Jafar Tayyar and Bibi Zainab (s) represented Jafar-e-Tayyar. On the night before Ashoora, Bibi Zainab (s) reminded her sons of the valour of their grandfathers. Bibi Zainab (s) said “You have the blood of Ali and Jafar in your veins. Tomorrow show Yazid’s army how valiant you are. You are still so young, my darling sons but remember it is a day of sacrifice. Be the first to come to the defence of your Imam.” When the time came to leave for the battlefield, they went to their uncle Imam Hussain (a) and asked if they could go to the battlefield. Bibi Zainab (s) herself went with them to make sure that the Imam said “Yes” to their request. The two youths rode out to the battlefield. They told the army of Yazeed - “We are Aun and Muhammad, the grandsons of Jafar e Tayyar and Hyder e Karrar!” Hazrat Abbas (a) who had taught them fencing felt proud of his pupils, as he watched them in the battlefield. Hazrat Aun (a) and Muhammad (a) together fought so bravely that they kept going deeper and deeper into the enemy ranks. They were surrounded and attacked for all sides. Imam Hussain (a) and Hazrat Abbas (a) watched how bravely they fought, though they were hungry and thirsty. The army of Umar ibne Saad was amazed to see how fiercely they were fighting and started to surround them and attack from all sides. At last, Hazrat Aun (a) and Muhammad (a) fell from their horses and called out to the Imam, “Accept our last salams.” Imam Hussain (a) and Hazrat Abbas (a) rushed out and brought them back. They were so wounded that they died on the way. When their bodies reached the tent, all the ladies started to cry, but Bibi Zainab (s) was in sajda! “O my Allah, I thank you for accepting my sacrifice!” Such was the courage of Shareekatal Hussain (a) as she sacrificed her beloved sons to save the message of Islam. There was renewed weeping in the house of the Prophet as they mourned the valiant young grandsons of Imam Ali (a) and Bibi Fatima (s), the grandsons of Jafar e Tayyar.
