@digitalteachermama: 17 years. A master’s degree. Endless certifications. Hundreds of students. Countless hours outside my contract time. Somewhere along the way, I accepted that $55k a year was just ‘the way it is.’ I don’t believe that anymore. Teachers aren’t lacking skills. They’re overflowing with them. The question is: what happens when you finally realize your earning potential doesn’t end at the classroom door?❤️ #teachers #teachersoftiktok #teacherburnout

My husband taught for 18 yrs (though he’s still in the education field). It really depends on the district! And while the pay sounds low, it’s also for ten months of work!

100% agree. Teachers aren't just teaching (as if that isn't enough on their plates), they are also caretakers/daycare/counselors of the most precious beings on all of earth.

That is odd. I don’t know teachers were forced to stay in a job. Wow.

💯!!! Also with no opportunity to make any gains financially. No matter how much experience and education you may have. Yes there are the perks of holidays and summers off and a decent schedule to be there for your own children but most teachers have to find a second source of income because today’s economy does match the salary of educators. You couldn’t have said it any better.

Can I ask if what grade you teach should effect your level of pay?

This is so confusing to me because where I live most teachers are making 6 figures after their first few years. starting wage is about 55k but just about any career starts lower.

In education for over 10 years before I left the profession. Hardest job I ever had. I worked my tail off. The most underpaid job I have ever had.

Are those smart, skilled, experienced professionals teachers? Because that seems circular that teachers are teaching themselves to undervalue themselves…

I always said the two jobs I couldn’t do is a police officer and a teacher the amount of stress and work and thinking and service involved minus the pay is something to me. I will never be able to process.

I try not to think about what others who have the same level of formal education make.
