This vid is from Tottenville High School 2008. Interesting to compare it to the Wayne NJ vid and all of the Long Island vids, those accents are all really similar #statenisland #tottenville #newyorkaccent #linguistics
For a long time, I genuinely thought these things were just part of having ulcerative colitis. You get diagnosed, you learn what your "normal" is, and eventually you can become so used to certain things that you stop questioning whether they should actually be happening. Knowing where every toilet is. Planning days around whether I'll have access to a toilet. Being scared to eat before going somewhere. Being exhausted and assuming everyone feels like that. Seeing blood and thinking, "It's just my UC." Taking handfuls of medication every day and eventually it just becomes part of your routine. And then, slowly, you start changing your life around the illness. You stop going certain places. You turn down plans. You think twice about holidays. You worry about concerts, football, days out and anything where you don't know what the toilet situation is going to be. The strange thing is, you don't necessarily notice it happening. It's not like you wake up one morning and decide, "Right, I'm going to stop doing all these things." It happens gradually. One cancelled plan becomes another. One difficult day becomes a reason not to go. Eventually, you can look back and realise just how much of your life you've adapted around your illness. I've had UC for 11 years now, and I'm finally at the point where surgery is becoming a reality. I'm nervous about it. I'm scared about it. There are obviously a million questions going through my head. But there's also a part of me that's desperate for the chance to get some of that life back. I don't want the next 11 years to be spent looking back at old photos and thinking about what I used to be able to do. I want to make some new memories. And if you're living with IBD, I'd genuinely love to know: What's something you thought was completely "normal" until you realised it probably wasn't? Because sometimes the things we've accepted for years are the exact things we shouldn't have had to accept in the first place. ❤️ #UlcerativeColitis #IBD #ChronicIllness #IBDCommunity #InvisibleIllness
