They do the same thing with Toph. She is 100% capable of stopping Azusa, Zuko and all the Dai Li agents in the catacombs so the narrative has to send her elsewhere for almost no reason to ensure that doesn’t happen

Mind you, the A plot was Aang trying and failing to learn earthbending and then yelling at Toph, the B plot was Zuko trying and failing to learn lightning bending and then yelling at the sky in the middle of a storm and the C plot was Sokka stuck in a hole

This is why the GAANG clears the Krew as a team. Every member of the GAANG was a prodigy in their own way, but Sokka is what ties it all together. He may not be a bender, but his battle IQ and strategic mind are on another level. He consistently turns a group of incredibly talented individuals into a coordinated fighting force. For someone so young, he thinks like a general—reading the battlefield, adapting on the fly, exploiting weaknesses, and putting his team in the best position to win. Raw power wins fights. Strategy wins wars. Sokka gave the GAANG both.

I like that he was both the comic relief and the voice of reason a lot of the time. Lesser shows would just have made him dumber over time.

see I miss cartoons doing this we instead of just dumping down a character who we all know is very smart and making them mess up a bunch of times they just put them on some sort of B plot now these days anytime a character is too smart and they run into this issue. They just make them stupid for an episode.
