I'm afraid that there's something's deeply wrong with the statement. I don't think you can ever separate yourself from the thought, that witnessing it, you mentioned, does not make you separate from the thought, it's rather the rise of another thought. So thought never dies or births, we can say the thought is situational and ever evolving.

totally get it...I read once which i use the practice while trying to sleep..all of us overthink especially when going to bed...
for me its breathing exercises then I imagine im sitting on a path looking at a bright blue sky...as my thoughts are testing me an passing by..i see them as passing vehicles..i dont engage, look or interact...for that moment im just there...it works fir me...however once I a while I think who is the fucker sending these thoughts 🤣..
