@abc7chicago: An Illinois man captured the terrifying moment a tornado ripped up his home in Effingham on Wednesday, June 17, while he was inside taking shelter. Trevor Jason Kreke told Storyful that he was sending his friend a video about the bad weather when things suddenly took a turn for the worst. “It started getting very intense, and the whole house started shaking, and glass started breaking,” he said. “I felt terrified in the moment.” Kreke said he has God to thank for helping him survive the tornado, which completely destroyed his house while leaving him uninjured. “God had his hand on me as I was inside the middle of a tornado,” he said. “Once I realized I was all right, and it was only material possessions that were destroyed, I just started thanking God.” The Effingham County Emergency Management Agency confirmed that a tornado traveled an “estimated 12-15 miles through the northern parts of Effingham County” on Wednesday evening. On Thursday, the agency said 30 homes were completely destroyed and 29 were heavily damaged by the tornado.
