Ticonderoga pencils are EXPENSIVE. Especially when the teacher is asking for 5 packs + school supplies. I have zero problem purchasing supplies + donating more to the class but I do have a problem when brand names are being requested. $20-$30 worth of pencils is not feasible for every family.

Elementary teacher here. I LOVE cute school supplies. But if your child's teacher asks for a specific color/type of folder/notebook PLEASE just get what's on the list. All kids need the same color for practical reasons. I wouldn't allow pink instead of red.

“If your child hates primary colors, ask to switch to pastels…” this is such a non issue to ask a teacher. Just buy the primary colors and let you kid decorate it instead of getting your hopes up. Better yet, teach your kids that rules are rules and to get over it

This works for the schools that don’t pool supplies. My child’s school pools supplies, unfortunately, so the ones we buy are not the ones she gets. We just buy the basics.
