My husband and I always would jokingly say things like “your so lame…” or “your so stupid…”. Immediately When we had our first child we discussed this… and how we would hate it if our children called each other these things. We immediately stopped calling each other names. Our kids never called each other names.

It's so crazy learning about this. I had an over twenty year relationship pretty much built off this. Sometimes the banter was amusing or funny but a lot of it was just tiring always making a joke out of everything. Being in a new relationship is so eye opening too, if by chance either of us makes a joke or comment the other felt off putting it always follows with an explanation and a genuine apology.

omg I'm glad he's learning and growing but this just made me soooo mad at him. I had someone in my life do this and to hear someone finally admit it after all the gaslighting just makes me even more furious that they do this!!!

my husband displays pseudohostility, I haven't ever been able to name the behavior but we argue about it often. I don't blame him, I blame his upbringing. I'm very happy I found your videos. I pray they help my relationship with my husband

Honestly jokes are fine in relationships as long as you both think it’s a joke if your SO tells you it’s hurting their feelings and you respond with it’s just a joke and continue making those jokes it’s not a joke anymore and it’s just bullying or negging.

I’ll die on this hill: being the victim of pseudohostility as a child helps a lot as a parent. Sometimes I introduce jokes to my kid but if she gets uncomfortable it’s a LOUD ALARM and I’m so quick to stop it immediately.
