Auto-Tune was invented in 1997. In the 80s and early 90 artists could actually sing. MTV is big and it was choosing the songs there was no Y, Spotify..etc we where limited on to the music that was allowed by music Producers/Companies. Now day you can fix your voice so it sounds good with auto-tune and upload that video to TV.

True. Something changed around early 2000s. Rock music and fantastic pop music dominated the charts up until the early 2000s, at least in the mainstream. The music was very natural and from the heart back then.

I heard years ago they wanted to one day make most music be rap music. They succeded but I do believe they don’t have the sales they once had back in the 70-80s era
