Clearly she doesn’t own any AirPods. There’s a mode called transparency mode that lets your listen to external sound

I live in NZ. In NZ We are all taught from day one to smile, small wave, or say “hi”, or “good morning” to others (even a complete strangers) when we walk past them on our walk. It’s just built into us. Me wearing an AirPod on my walk hasn’t changed that at all. I still always do my best to acknowledge the people I’m walking past while music is blasting in my ears.

The whole point was to stop useless interactions for me with people.

There is no feature about airpods that is significantly different enough from headphones of any kind to create this kind of issue.

You can turn on the transparency mode and do the same thing. Not everyone uses noise cancellation mode when they walk among people.

Every new headphone technology lasts for a year or so. Look at the Walkman and the disc man then the iPod

Disagree. People wear them to avoid interactions. They want to listen to something else instead, podcasts, music etc. Airpods have provided choice. Love them.
