After a long absence from all of my favorite hobbies and writing communities due to my crowded headspace after my mom’s rapid health decline over the past couple years, and her recent passing in February following a long and arduous battle with cancer, I decided to go to the @Broadleaf Writers meet at @foxtalebookshoppe on June 13 last-minute and I wrote a piece at three in the morning day-of (yes, I am a pantser with all my writing…🤦🏼‍♀️). As a Bells Ferry resident, between the recent data center debacle with the city of Marietta and the clear disregard for the community by city officials, the numerous other tragic cases in Georgia that involve downplaying the negative impact of these places on the communities they leech from, and the surge in nonconsensual surveillance very close to home, my nervous system has been shaken and disregulated for months. While I would still like to refine the piece I read for everyone at the meeting (and include some of the more passionate and igniting things I chose not to express in the moment, due to a time limit of about five minutes), I wrote and spoke everything from my heart.
