I DID IT. 🎓 Bachelor of Health Sciences in Medical Imaging — MRI. 🧲🧠 There are graduations you celebrate because you finished school… and then there are graduations that mean something so much deeper because you know everything you had to survive just to make it across that stage. This one is personal. My life has never happened in the “right” order. I got married, became a mother, got divorced, survived domestic violence, experienced homelessness, rebuilt my life, became a single mother, bought my own home, went back to school, earned my cosmetology degree in 2024, and somehow kept deciding that I still wasn't done becoming everything I knew I could be. And today, I can finally say: I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences in Medical Imaging — MRI. 🎓 And because apparently I don't know how to do anything the easy way 😂, I'm also graduating with another degree in Math and Science. The road to this moment was HELL. There were days when I was dealing with court, family problems, financial responsibilities, work, motherhood, a mortgage, clinicals, exams, assignments, and life all at the SAME time. There were moments when circumstances—and yes, even people—seemed determined to make sure I couldn't finish. But here's the thing about me: You can make the road harder. You cannot decide where I finish. I refused to let the worst chapters of my life become the ending of my story. I have never wanted to define myself as a victim. I am a woman who survived things that could have destroyed her and somehow learned how to build while surviving. Every time life knocked me down, I came back with another plan, another degree, another accomplishment, another reason to keep going. And before I even got to put on my cap and gown, I was blessed with an incredible six-figure opportunity as an MRI Technologist in the very field I have fallen in love with. 🧲❤️ To go from wondering how I was going to make everything work to beginning the career I worked so hard for feels surreal. But there were two things that made today more emotional than anything else. My daughter was there. My baby. My biggest reason. My family. My little cheerleader through all of this. She got to watch her mother walk across that stage with honors and honor cords after watching me fight through everything it took to get there. More than any title or degree, THAT means something to me. I wanted her to see with her own eyes that your life does not end because something terrible happens to you. You can start over. You can rebuild. You can change direction. You can fall apart and still put yourself back together stronger. And then there was my Baba. ❤️ My father passed away in October 2023, and there isn't a day like today when I don't wish I could see his face. So I carried him with me. I wore my father's graduation gown. The same man who, all those years ago, wanted his stubborn daughter to go into radiology while I insisted, “No, I want to be a lawyer.” 😂 Well Baba… somehow, after all these years, I found my way exactly where you once told me to go. I know he would have been ridiculously proud of me today. And wearing his gown made me feel like, in some small way, he still got to walk across that stage with his daughter. I am my father's daughter. I am my mother's daughter. And everything they poured into me is still alive in me. I walked across that stage with my honors, my father's gown, my daughter beside me, and Palestine around my neck 🇵🇸—proudly carrying the things and people that mean something to me. So no, this isn't just another graduation picture. This picture represents survival. It represents motherhood. It represents rebuilding. It represents sleepless nights. It represents every tear nobody saw. It represents refusing to stay down. It represents proving—not to the world, but ultimately to MYSELF—exactly who the fuck I am. I have been through hell and back, and somehow I came back educated, employed, a homeowner, a mother, stronger, wiser, and still dreaming bigger.
