Interesting- I live in a 3b-4 and we can stretch zone 5 plants into our area if we mulch them heavily and plant them deep. Eg. roses that have a graft have to be planted with the graft below the soil bc otherwise the graft may die over winter and the original plant may be what sprouts fresh in the spring. Is that also the case for you with other grafted plants or is your advice applicable mainly for fruit trees?
