@doc4heart: I’m Dr. Michael Richman, a double board certified cardiothoracic surgeon. I think you’ll find today’s video extremely insightful and you will have a thorough understanding about the etiology and pathogenesis of coronary artery disease leading to blockages and often a heart attack or death. I present the evidence based medicine, talking about the effect of cholesterol deposition, beginning in childhood and subsequently what autopsies of US soldiers who died in battle have taught us about atherosclerosis #heartattack #cardiovascular #cardiovascularhealth #soldiers #hearthealth
Thank you. No one believes me when I talk about this.

Exercised the majority of my life since I was 16, just had quintuple bypass surgery 12 weeks ago that was only found by chance due to some work required testing.

My doctor asked me what I was doing differently because my bloodwork hasn't looked this good since my thirties. I told him i read The Peasant's Prescription by Grace Wild. He actually wrote the title down!

Fast food, poor food choices, economics, lack of knowledge. So much garbage food, quick easy, tasty, and marketed. My 2 cents. Thanks Doc. Love listening to you.

Is there any noninvasive way to determine the amount of soft plaque in our arteries?

I had 99% blockage LAD and a branch off it at 51. My dad had 5 CABG at 49. Then 4 at 65.

Everyone develops some degree of plaque over time. Diet and exercise help, but they don’t completely prevent it. The question isn’t whether you’ll develop plaque—it’s whether it ever becomes a problem. That’s why statins can be so valuable. The real cure would be finding a way to reverse plaque, not just slow it down.

I would think the typical diet in the 60s was much healthier but smoking was very prominent and acceptable at that time
