My grandpa told me something I've never been able to shake. In five years... most of the people you see every day will be strangers again. Not enemies. Not failures. Just no longer in your orbit. The coworkers. The neighbors. The people you twist yourself into a pretzel for just to keep the peace. People flow in. People flow out. That's not the sad part. The sad part is the question it raises. If most of these people are only here for a chapter... why are you spending so much energy managing what they think of you? I spent years saying yes when my whole body said no. Making choices based on who might be disappointed. Shrinking so the room could stay comfortable. Nobody taught us to build a life we actually want. They taught us to be likable. To not rock the boat. And that works... right up until you realize the boat isn't going anywhere you actually want to go. Here's what I know now. The version of you that people-pleases through the next five years will look back at a chapter where you traded your actual life for someone else's comfort level. But the version of you that starts choosing alignment over approval? That person builds something real. Something still standing when the crowd moves on. YOU get to decide where your energy goes. YOU are allowed to build something that actually feels like yours... even if nobody around you gets it yet. Because in five years? Most of them won't be there anyway. But you will be. And future you is worth building for right now. Save this if it hit. Follow me @officialmatthenry for more. Tap the 🔗 in my Bl0 or drop
