@adamthecco: Every time a ref blows for a hydration break at this World Cup, FOX cash in big. ITV made nothing from the same breaks. Once broadcasters get a taste of money like that, what’s stopping them pushing for more of it next time rights are negotiated. #fifaworldcup #worldcup2026 #sportsontiktok #footballtiktok
Like everything else, ruined when business gets involved to 'maximise revenue'

My concern is will fifa take these breaks into consideration when allocating future tournaments to different parts of the world? Will they now look for the hottest countries to play in to justify hydration breaks?

Prem won’t do it for multiple reasons. Firstly they couldn’t justify it as a hydration break because the weather almost never necessitates it. Secondly, their core viewership wouldn’t see the ads because of the ofcom rules and the blackout means those literally couldn’t be seen domestically anyway. Thirdly, even if owners wanted it I genuinely don’t believe they are incompetent enough to risk their products reputation vs the potential backlash. This could happen in leagues that need the revenue though but I’d imagine it’d be marketed differently to sneak it through

This is one of the reasons why football hasn't taken off in the usa on tv because unlike nfl there aren't breaks every 30 seconds for them to bombarded you with adverts, hopefully these hydration breaks won't become part of the game after this world cup
