In Amsterdam it’s the pedestrians that need the protection!

Amsterdam needs curbs to protect pedestrians from bikes. That place is dangerous.

I think a lot of folks struggle to comprehend the size of American cities. Yes, this is great. It’s simply not applicable to the system that has developed in the United States. What happens to seniors and disabled people who live here in the winter? Im a cyclist and a driver and I think this is great but I don’t think it is transferable

Neighborhood Institute :
This is great for people of all ages and abilities. Disabled folks and seniors are disproportionately LESS likely to own a car. They are more likely to be transit riders. Even when people have access to cars, many non-car areas make exceptions for the disabled and give access (also for deliveries etc).

Also, the maximum speed in the entire city is 20mph, which also makes everything much safer for everyone.

There are several types of bike lanes in the Netherlands. A red asphalt strip alongside the road is sometimes an advisory bike lane rather than a fully separated cycle path. In that case, all road users are allowed to use it when needed, but the red coloring serves as a reminder that cyclists are likely to be there. The idea is to encourage mutual awareness and consideration rather than giving exclusive access to one type of road user.

America is just the Wild West 😂 our current infrastructure could not support this unless we did a large overhaul. NY is the best example of decent bike infrastructure

There are a few bike lanes in Oslo that is protected by a curb. I hate it. It is dangerous if you need to go up or down the curb and if for some reason someone or something is blocking the bike lane, the curb makes it difficult to go around them.

New bike lanes in north america will absolutely need curbs if they're still accessible by cars. Most drivers wouldn't even notice a sign like that telling them to turn if there's nothing in their way. That or some divider from traffic. Drivers feel like the whole road is theirs if they aren't forced to stop.

the last line was silly. Obviously without bikes you wouldn't need protected bike lanes either

We need this on roncy in Toronto. Modal filter! But the businesses need to understand how much it will make the street a huge tourist destination and local destination, esp in the summer—and increase business. Right now the businesses only see a few people park but fear they will lose those customers even though most customers are local walking and biking.
