Unfortunately the original studio that created the first 4 movies closed 11 years ago and retired the software they used. So the new studio making Shrek 5 had to come up with it on their own but they are also purposefully making it more cartoonish and is geared towards the younger generation. ANNOYING cause Shrek was ours first

Hey I’m the daughter of one of the animators and let me tell yall what actually happened- it’s just the quality and technology that improved over the years. The original Shrek was an ACCIDENT, in a way. Nobody wanted to work on the movie and it was pretty half assed, and they were really surprised that it did so well. So they continued the franchise. The thing is overtime the graphics and quality evolved, and so did the animator’s skills. So now, with the new tools available, obviously it’s going to look different because everybody is now USED to make “good quality” movies ! Though they could’ve perhaps intentionally made it… worse ?… I doubt that anybody working on the movie actually THOUGHT to put in LESS effort hahah
