In Ukraine, as well as in other post-soviet countries, chicory was the most popular coffee substitute back then, since coffee was a very deficit product accessible for a few. And in fact it was best one, since other substitutes contained birch bark and acorns. My grandpa still enjoys drinking chicory!

Try making it like hot chocolate. Add milk, cream, honey, other stuff. Way better than simple.

My old friend Bernie used to make chicory coffee. It’s really not that bad. Also, I was walking home from work and saw a “weed” growing along the sidewalk. I decided to google lens it and it was chicory
