I have helped people through some of the hardest things in their lives- miscarriages, family deaths, illnesses and have done so with kindness and reassurance and info on the process for going off work and assurance work is the last thing they need to worry about. I'm a good person and the HR slander doesn't apply to all of us.

HR - Employee Relations here - specifically investigations and contract negotiations. Come to us with a concern, I’ll do my darned best to make sure it’s addressed. You protect the company by advocating for the employee. At least that’s how I operate it. 🤷♀️

I don’t think this advice is ill intentioned, but it’s un-nuanced in a way that is great for the internet and bad in real life. HR is also an ally more of than not and very few employees’ interests are diametrically opposed to their employer’s. Leaders cannot mistrust HR — they are also stewards of the company, and this advice disposes people to see themselves as at odds with their company, which is an attitude most of us see as junior.
