@thewildcarrotfarmstead: If you are new here, you may not know that we are a tribal registered Native American family. • And many of the skincare products we sustainably craft from our farm, have been passed down to us from our ancestors. • We are super excited to share our family’s drawing salve recipe we use for our go-to for drawing infection and foreign objects out of our skin! • And with running a farmstead, this is something we face daily! • We’ve been selling our drawing salve as a top seller for several years now, and there’s no wonder why. • My family reaches for this and the Calendula healing ointment almost daily, and if you don’t have these stocked in your apothecary, you really should! • Our Native Black Drawing Salve is a passed down recipe of our ancestors and isn’t easy to make, to be honest. • There’s a lot of ingredients. Timing is also a factor to get it to set right. A stocked apothecary is needed. A lot of handmade infusions. A lot of foraging. A lot of planning ahead. A lot of love. Goes into this salve. • This large 2oz jar can be used to neutralize toxins and can also help you survive by reducing inflammation from cactus spines, embedded glass shards, bee stings, tick bites, spider bites, thorns, and even ingrown hairs. • We’ve been using on our family, on our kids and with ourselves, for the past decade and we have seen so much healing accomplished with this salve! • This is just the right trick for splinters, especially! • Slather it on, convert with a bandaid, and the splinter is gone the next day, without poking and fishing around for the splinter, itself! • We sure wish you could smell this through the screen, as the notes of clove, lavender, and rosemary come through nicely. • This salve is good for 12 months, at least. • And if you don’t have the means, or want, to make it yourself, it’s also available on our website! • • Ingredients: (yields approx 8 2oz jars) 13oz St. John’s Wort infused extra virgin olive oil 2.5oz jewelweed infused castor oil 2.5oz bentonite clay 2.5oz activated charcoal 1.5oz beeswax 70 drops rosemary infused jojoba oil 70 drops clove oil 70 drops lavender hydrosol Directions: Step 1 Put your herbal infused oil, castor oil, and beeswax into a double boiler. Any double boiler system will work. The goal is to melt the beeswax into the oils. Once that is done, take it off the heat. Allow to cool a bit. Step 2 Next add the charcoal and clay and mix thoroughly. Step 3 Add your drops of essential oil and again mix thoroughly. Allow to cool and set some before pouring. You can test this by using your spatula and making sure it doesn’t just slip right off. You want it to be thick and stick on your utensil. Step 4 Pour the salve mixture into a glass jar. Allow it to set. It will harden up naturally on its own as the beeswax cools and the oils are absorbed by the charcoal and clay. This salve has a good shelf life if stored in a cool dry location but it is probably best not to make too much of it at any one time. Think about how accident-prone you, and those depending on you, are and make enough to last for six months. Hopefully, you won’t need too much but it’s always best to be prepared! - - - #naturalskincare #homeremedies #herbalism #homesteadlife
