the main reason something like nexplanon would fail is 1) not waiting a full week to have secs after it being put in (it takes a week to start working) 2) leaving it in too long (it eventually runs out of hormones) 3) taking a different medication, like Ella, that may cancel out the birth control.

I have an IUD and sooo many people have told me I’m going to get pregnant with it. No, I understand I still need to track my periods (even if it’s just one day of spotting), and I know my IUD doesn’t prevent ovulation. I know it doesn’t make me invincible and that I still need to be careful

I've since gotten sterilized, but if I could marry a nexplanon implant, I would. The peace of mind not having to make sure my timing and dose/use are *just right* every day was amazing.

I am 48. Not in menopause yet. I have an iud. I’ve been on some form of birth control since I was about 17. No children. Minimal side effects. And I’m very healthy. A bonus of hormonal birth control is also easier perimenopause. I still have some symptoms and take other hormones, but my experience has been so much easier than friends’.

As someone with 5.5 years in OBGYN (MA), I have seen people get pregnant on literally every birth control method. No birth control is 100% effective except a hysterectomy. Birth control isn't one size fits all and many different types work for many different people.

Yep!! Also goes into the point of why the studies talk about 2 rates- 1 realistic use type of rate and 1 “if you use it perfectly” rate. Personally I love my IUD and how effective it is!

With the Nexplanon ladies that get pregnant I’ve found a surprising correlation between medications that impact hormones to improve moods. But either way it’s not a documented correlation just my best guess 😫
