its illegal in some states to collect rainwater to avoid people potentially hoarding the water supply as rainwater is necessary for replenishing bodies of water, watering agriculture, and serves as the supply for drinking water. too many people collecting the water can cause droughts in some areas and potentially disturb the environment/ agriculture.

If too many people store water at home then it doesn’t get recycled in the water cycle. Causing a catastrophic domino effect on the environment as a whole. This is just incredibly selfish.

There is not one state in the union where collecting rainwater is illegal. There are extremely limited circumstances where collecting massive amounts of water is illegal. No person could ever meet that threshold for non commercial use

Check you state laws, most states in not illegal just regulated, bc there water rights there has to be to keep it in the water cycle, or rain could be affected in areas where mass water is collected, and where other people rely on the lil rain water they get for crop and plantation

it's illegal because if everyone collected rain water it would cause a drought as the water wouldn't be able to continue the weather cycle
