@lisaasmith8: RETIRE AT 55 WITH $2M - YOUR PAYCHECK? Retire at 55 with $2 million - what is your paycheck? Pull 5% a year - $100K. That's $8,000 a month. Want more? Pull 8% a year - that's over $13K a month. RISK: At 8% you pull out faster than it grows. 5% = $8K for life. 8% = GAMBLE. #LisaSmith #LisaSmithRetireby45 #Gamble #howmuchdoyouneedtoliveoninretirement #retirement #moneyforretirement #howcaniretire #moneyTIps #retireearly
Why is my financial advisor telling me not to retire early with a little over $2MM when we could totally live off the 5% a year?

So take 7% for 7 years then when you turn 62 and collect social security, reduce it to 5%

Nobody can live off 96k a year before taxes. Thats more like 72k after taxes in California. You’d be bankrupt

Many people who retired early found that they had a lot less money that they thought after the Great Recession in 2007-2009. People who retired early ran out of money and had to go back to work. It was bad here in Florida

S&P avg return is 10-12% so figure 3% for inflation, you should be able to pull 7-9% no problem. However if the market is down when you start your retirement, recommend pulling out the minimum needed.

Within in seven years you can collect Social Security at 62 years old and if you have saved $2 million you’re probably a bracket you’re probably gonna be taking another 3000 at least a month

Good point. If you cut the $2mm to $1.5 at 65 that is your bridge to get to social security and health insurance. From there you are golden

I have way more than $2M, but if I was working with $2M, I would pull 6% during market growth years, and in market down years pull 2% from savings, and 4% from retirement.
