Absolutely do not learn Java first. Itzms really outdated. Object orientation is an aged paradigm on the way out. Almost no developers know how to use design patterns without shooting themselves in the foot so they are far beyond beginners. Javas build tools are truly awful. The bytecode language is well designed.

the problem with java is it's harder for beginners to learn because it is so object oriented. they need to know what is a class and what is a static method before understanding what the starter hello world snippet actually does. of course these can be glanced over at the start and just accept that they have to write this boilerplate to start, but the moment they learn about classes, static methods, and method visibility they'd have to return to the beginning to understand how is truly happening. it has higher bar to start and not really a linear progression. I think C with its simplicity is a better option to start with, that is if you really want to learn the concepts and fundamentals. if you just want to try programming, python and even js has a low bar of entry

I wouldn't recommend programs that don't enforce encapsulation by default to start with. even less python that you can't enforce encapsulation. C# is the best for learning and the encapsulation is the default, while allows de-encapsulation if it's needed.
